Porcelain Veneers

Chipped, discolored, or unevenly sized teeth can make you feel self-conscious, causing you to cover your smile when you talk or laugh.

Porcelain veneers are extremely thin porcelain shells which can cover multiple cosmetic imperfections in your smile in a single treatment.

Veneers Can Improve Your Smile and Your Self-Confidence

Lifelike Materials

Veneers are made from medical-grade dental porcelain. This material can be closely matched to the color of your surrounding teeth and mimics the shine and texture of natural enamel.

Comprehensive Coverage

While other cosmetic dentistry treatments, such as teeth whitening, are designed to address a single issue, veneers can conceal discoloration, minor cases of misalignment, and chips or cracks all at once

Long-Lasting Results

Porcelain veneers have several benefits over other procedures which make them a worthwhile investment. They are stain-resistant and carefully designed to last several years before they need to be replaced.

Are you a good candidate for porcelain veneers?

Dr. Vincent Ip Can Determine If You Qualify

There are certain recommendations and requirements for patients who are considering porcelain veneers, including:

Have Sufficient Tooth Enamel

In order for your veneers to fit correctly, Dr. Ip will need to remove some of your enamel. Enamel is the coating that protects your teeth from sensitivity and decay-causing bacteria. If you have excessively worn enamel, you might not qualify for veneers.

Free of Teeth Grinding

Although veneers are remarkably strong, they are not indestructible. If you are prone to bruxism and constantly clench or grind your teeth, you are more likely to damage your veneers and will need an oral appliance to protect them.

Suffer from Minor Misalignment

Veneers are an effective option for concealing minor gaps or misalignment. But if you have severe malocclusion, you might be a better candidate for braces or Invisalign® treatment

Prepared for a Permanent Investment

Once you receive veneers, they will need to be replaced at some point. Good candidates should understand that they will need to cover recurring costs. If you are not ready for this commitment, talk to Dr. Ip about alternatives such as dental bonding

Committed to Good Oral Hygiene

Although veneers themselves are stain-resistant, the underlying tissue and surrounding teeth are still susceptible to decay. In addition to visiting our office for regular dental exams, you should be committed to brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily.

Aren't Veneers More Expensive Than Other Treatments?

Veneers are generally more expensive than other cosmetic dentistry treatments which address the same types of imperfections.

The most popular alternative to veneers is dental bonding. Although bonding can achieve similar effects, the composite resin does not have the same lifelike qualities or strength as dental porcelain.

Simply put, veneers are considered a worthwhile investment if you want superior results.

What to Expectfrom Start to Finish

Veneers allow you to conceal various cosmetic concerns over the course of two appointments

Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Ip will review your oral health, discuss your goals for treatment, and take digital impressions using our in-office CEREC® technology.

Planning

Dr. Ip will take your facial features and desired goals into account when designing your veneers and creating a custom treatment plan. If you'd like, he can create a mock-up so that you can preview your results.

Preparation

If you are satisfied with your proposed treatment plan, Dr. Ip will prepare the treated teeth by removing a small amount of enamel. He will take a second set of impressions and place temporary veneers to protect your smile.

Fabrication

Over the next few weeks, your custom veneers will be crafted by a skilled ceramic artist at a trusted lab. These restorations are precisely fabricated based on Dr. Ip's instructions for the most natural-looking results.

Placement

When your veneers are returned to our office, you will come back for your second appointment. Dr. Ip will test the fit and feel of the restorations, etch your teeth to create a stable base, and permanently bond the veneers in place

More Information About Veneers

If you are unhappy with how discoloration, chips, or misalignment affect your smile, a set of custom dental veneers can transform your appearance. Porcelain veneers are thin shells of medical-grade ceramic that fit over the front of your teeth to conceal a wide range of cosmetic concerns. At Smile 360 in Austin, TXDr. Vincent Ip recommends veneers for patients who want to dramatically alter their smile. Often, a set of porcelain veneers offers the same results as teeth whitening, orthodontics, and dental crowns combined. We offer veneers as a stand-alone treatment or as part of a customized smile makeover plan.

Veneers Explained

Dental veneers are placed directly on the front surface of your teeth. Made with ceramic, veneers can mimic the natural translucency and shine of natural teeth and blend in with your surrounding smile. The wafer-thin shells are customized to the color, size, shape, and length of your teeth.

This cosmetic option is usually recommended to patients who hope to address multiple structural or cosmetic concerns, such as:

  • Discoloration
  • Chips
  • Minor misalignment
  • Cracks
  • Gaps
  • Worn teeth

To qualify for treatment with veneers, you must be in good overall oral health. If Dr. Ip notices any signs of periodontal disease, decay, or other health concerns, he will recommend that you receive treatment for these conditions first. Patients should also have a sufficient amount of healthy tooth enamel to support the veneers. During an initial consultation, you can discuss your cosmetic goals with Dr. Ip and he can assess your oral health to determine if porcelain veneers are right for you. He may recommend an alternative treatment such as dental bonding or teeth whitening.

Planning Your Treatment

Treatment with porcelain veneers is highly personalized. As a result, the initial consultation in especially important. Besides discussing your goals and oral health, Dr. Ip will take a series of scans, x-rays, and digital impressions with our advanced CEREC® technology to begin planning your treatment. Before you decide to proceed with veneers, Dr. Ip can create a mock-up of your expected result so that you have a rough idea of what your smile may look like.

Placing Dental Veneers

When placing porcelain veneers, Dr. Ip will first prepare your teeth to help ensure a natural look and strong bond between the veneers and your teeth. This process involves removing a thin layer of enamel from the front of the teeth to make room for the veneers. The exact amount will depend on anatomy of your smile.

Depending on how much enamel is removed, we may take a second set of digital impressions before sending the information to our trusted dental laboratory for fabrication. If Dr. Ip decides it is necessary, we can also fit you for a set of temporary veneers to protect against sensitivity. Typically, it only takes a few weeks for a set of custom veneers to return from the lab.

A set of porcelain veneers from Smile 360 can provide dramatic cosmetic changes.

Once your new veneers arrive, Dr. Ip will check their fit and appearance during a second appointment. If necessary, we can make minor alterations to the color and shape of the veneers. This fine-tuning helps ensure the veneers blend seamlessly into your smile. To place the veneers, Dr. Ip will gently etch your tooth to create a solid base and then bond the porcelain using a strong dental adhesive.
